Our mission is to make places that people love more widely available, so we built a platform that empowers innovative developers and trades to build beautiful, sustainable neighborhoods.
Mosaic was founded in 2017 by Salman Ahmad and Sep Kamvar, two computer scientists who worked together at MIT and Stanford developing machine learning algorithms applied in the real world. Together, they developed a bold vision for the home building industry: construction as code.
The homebuilding industry needed rethinking. With historically low productivity rates, rising housing costs and a supply chain in crisis, developers were struggling to innovate and build scalable housing at attainable costs. Applying a software model to the home building industry, Mosaic built a category-defining general contracting platform that enables developers to build differentiated homes and neighborhoods at scale.
Mosaic coincided with a major inflection point in the U.S. housing market - the rise of build-to-rent (BTR) neighborhoods. As demand grows and the model matures, BTR is a space of opportunity for developers to create more housing at scale while advancing construction standards, sustainability and livability.

At the core of Mosaic’s GC operation is Mosaic Hub - our own flexible and intuitive ERP system. Hub is responsible for the contracting lifecycle which is at the core of every construction project: budgeting, bidding, contracting, change management, and payments.
To achieve this Hub operates on Cost Modeling - a novel approach to construction data in which we can describe a project as a set of Costs that need to be performed and paid. Hub then adapts Cost Modeling data to drive day-to-day processes like payments, accounting, scheduling, and approval workflows.
